Solvay Indupa supports a book that rescues the cultural identity of cities of the ABC region in Brazil
Artists of these cities around Santos-Jundiaí railway have its memories registered into the publication about the importance of this region for the country.
To know the cultural identity of ABC region in São Paulo State, represented by these artists, is to understand a slice of Brazilian history since the period of coffee economy, the old industry and the rural evasion. The region was marked by emigration of workers coming from diverse parts of the Country and had taken position and loaded ideologies and values. All this profile reflected in artistic and cultural manifestations of cities like Santo André, Rio Grande da Serra, Ribeirão Pires, Mauá and in the historical village of Paranapiacaba.
To valorize so great cultural and historical portfolio, Solvay Indupa and the specialist in History, Marcelo de Paiva, had placed in practice an old ideal: to register these artistical protagonists, as the employees and passengers of the disactivated railway from some cities of ABC region. The result of this initiative is the book “Águas, Trilhos e Manacás – As Cores da Memória” (Waters, Rails and Manacás: The colors of memory), a publication that congregates memory of painters, artisans, actors, musicians, writers, poets and moviemakers that, before everything, are citizens of this region. “Many artists do not recognize the dimension how they are important for the region”, affirm the historian.
The book will be free distributed to libraries, research centers, universities and basic schools. Beyond the printed version, the book will also be available to other educational centers around the country by downloads extracted here. “We want to democratize the access to this rich and cultural material about ABC region for the whole country”, affirms the Communication and Corporate Affairs Manager of Solvay Indupa, Edison Carlos. The proposal of this publication is to be a source of information to historians, researchers, artists and professionals involved with Culture, students and ordinary people that love to see Brazilian cultural and artistic manifestations. |
